Girlgaze x Shinola

Girlgaze teamed up Detroit based Shinola highlighted five Girls With Purpose who are using art and creativity to promote social change in their communities.

The Project

To celebrate their Fall ’17 line of accessories, Detroit based brand Shinola teamed up with Girlgaze to highlight five extraordinary women who are using their work to advance their communities and societies.

Heather Hazzan for Girlgaze MGMT shot all of the campaign photos (on film). The images are accompanied by a mini-documentary series directed by Stephanie Szerlip.

Madame Ghandi

Based in L.A., Kiran is an electronic music artist and activist known as Madame Gandhi whose music celebrate and elevates the female voice.

Sophie Kruz

Sophie is the founder of the nonprofit Driftseed, an organization using education, outreach and documentary storytelling to shift the conversation around women and girls. Sophia also directed a film that paints a mosaic of the women’s movement through art as a vehicle for healing.

LaRayia Gayston

LaRayia is an actress, producer and founder of Lunch on Me, a non-profit organization of individuals constructing greater change in the fight against starvation.

Anna Bulbrook

Anna is the founder of Girlschool, a women-led music festival, online platform and community that celebrates and connects women-identified artists, leaders and voices.

Babs Burchfield

Babs is a creative director most well-know for her work as founder of Conscious Commerce, a creative agency infusing conscious consumerism into every vertical. Babs also produces media and events in her role as a partner of Riot.House, serves as a producer of Global Citizens Festival, and designs interiors and experiences for companies like Activision Blizzard Studios, RYOT, and Summit Series.
